COPD and Throat Burn Reflux: A Hot Topic, Eric Blicker CCC-SLP.D BCS-S

Eric Blicker CCC-SLP.D BCS-S has been a Board Certified Specialist in Swallowing and Swallowing Disorders since 2008. That same year, Dr. Blicker received his Clinical Doctoral degree from Nova Southeastern University. In 2000-2001, he was trained at Columbia University in Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing with Sensory Testing (FEESST) by Dr. Jonathan Aviv, the otolaryngologist who developed FEESST. Eric has started multiple Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES) programs in the United States while training speech-language pathologists and physicians in the process. For the past 6 years, his company, Community Care Partners Inc, has been an ASHA Approved CE Provider. Dr. Blicker has lectured at several universities and has provided FEES training courses in several states. His clinical FEES experience includes working in a variety of settings. Dr. Blicker is the FEES Committee Chairperson and Project Coordinator in the Mercy Health East Market in Cincinnati Ohio.

Turning Behavior and Anxiety into Communication for Social Problem-Solving, Janice Nathan, M.S., SLP-CCC

Janice is an internationally recognized speaker and SLP, who works exclusively with individuals with autism and related neuro-cognitive disorders. Janice grew up with a brother and a mother with ASD. She is the author of “Building Reasoning and Problem-solving Skills in Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder: A Step-by-Step Guide to the Thinking in Speech® Intervention” (2018).

The ability to "think in speech" is critical for independent problem-solving and emotional self-regulation. Research shows that individuals with ASD have underdeveloped “inner speech." An evidence-based intervention will be detailed that facilitates a child’s ability to silently talk him/herself through a problem in order to achieve social and academic success. Using videos from her practice to show participants exactly what she does to help children with autism and related neurodevelopmental disorders (e.g., ADHD) use language to control their behavior and anxiety, and to talk themselves through emotional, social or academic problems.

Posters are eligible to compete for a prize of $250, which will be selected at the convention by a panel of judges. Entries will be judged based on topic organization, content, and presenter communication. Must have a minimum of 4 poster presentations in order to participate. *Note- not eligible for current board members*
