SCSHA is pleased to announce that the Ronald McDonald House Charities will be the designated Caring Square charity for the 2020 Annual Convention!

Ronald McDonald House Charities® (RMHC®) Columbia, SC provides guest families with all the comforts of home, so they are able to focus on what matters the most, the health of their child. Keeping families close to each other and the care they need.

Its cornerstone programs, the Ronald McDonald House and the Ronald McDonald Family Room, ensure that families stay together when staying together matters most.

A Wish List of items has been provided for use in identifying items of need. The Wish List can be viewed below!

Being away from home with a seriously ill or injured child is difficult and stressful for families. The cost of hotel rooms, long commutes, lengthy hospital stays and being away from family and friends in a strange place takes an enormous emotional and financial toll on families in crises. That's where we come in.

The 16,000-square-foot, sixteen bedroom, Ronald McDonald House provides a comfortable environment where families can rest, enjoy home-cooked meals, relax in the spacious living areas, access laundry facilities and most importantly, receive a network of support among other families struggling with similar worries and fears. This stability allows families to focus on being there for their child when it matters most.

We understand that being away from home, and perhaps unable to work, can take a financial toll on families, particularly those dealing with the medical crisis of a child. Therefore, though it costs $89/per family, per night to operate the House program, we only encourage, but never require, families to make a contribution of just $15 per night. However, no family is ever turned away due to their inability to contribute.

The Ronald McDonald House is open to serve families 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year.

Staying At The House
Any family who has a child 21 years of age or younger that is being treated at an area medical facility is eligible to stay at our House. All families must be referred by a healthcare professional involved in the patient's care. Because of the large volume of room requests, the Ronald McDonald House Columbia, SC is unable to accept reservations. If a room is unavailable at the time of the referral, the family will be placed on a waiting list and called as soon as a room becomes available.

If you are a doctor, nurse or social worker, please fax a completed room request application to the Operations Director at 803-254-8688.

The Ronald McDonald Family Room extends the comfort of the Ronald McDonald House to Prisma Health Children's Hospital and provides an oasis from the hustle and bustle of hospital corridors and crowded waiting rooms. The Family Room offers refreshments, internet access, and most importantly, the helping hand of caring volunteers.

Additionally, the Family Room hosts a variety of special programs and services for patients and their families, including Coffee Hour, Make and Takes and Holiday Events.

The Family Room is located on the first floor of Prisma Health Children's Hospital and is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday. The Room is 100% staffed by volunteers.

Every weekday at 12:00 p.m. Monday through Friday the Family Room provides a light lunch. Families have the opportunity to gather with other families or take the lunch with them.

Make And Takes
When families spend countless hours at the hospital it is easy to get overwhelmed and stressed. Therefore, we host Make and Takes throughout the year. This is a time for families to socialize with others, while working on a fun project that they are able to finish in a short amount of time.
